Homework

I'm sure you are wondering if there is homework tonight.  The answer is YES.  There is homework every night {Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday} in 3rd grade.

Here is why we do homework:

so we can practice, practice, practice!  Homework should take about 40 minutes to complete.

20 minutes of reading + 10 minutes of writing in the RRJ + 5-10 minutes of spelling practice = around 40 minutes

IXL is suggested, but not required... however, spending a few minutes on IXL each night is a great way to boost math success.  Once an IXL skill has been mastered, move on to a new skill!

Your child has "Speller's Choice" homework each night, Monday through Thursday, to help prepare for the spelling test on Friday.  Their "choice" page is in their FALCON folder.  Your child needs to choose one of the activities and complete it on the back of his/her homework sheet.  Our school subscribes to http://www.spellingcity.com and your child has a login so they can practice words online!  We also subscribe to http://www.ixl.com for math and, at times, there may be suggested math homework too, which your child can complete by logging in at IXL.

Check out this explanation by clicking on the picture below...

Is your child missing their Speller's Choice sheet?  I give prizes at the end of the month to everyone who still has their original sheet... but if you need a new one, click HERE to download them.

Your child also has 20 minutes of reading tonight and may be assigned to write about their reading in their RRJ.  Please check the homework sheet in their FALCON to see if the RRJ is assigned for tonight.  Even if there is no RRJ, your child is still expected to read for 20 minutes!
